AstraZeneca chief quits as stocks fall
David Brennan, chief executive at the pharmaceutical company announced his resignation hours before a shareholder meeting. AstraZeneca has been hit by losses from a limited pipeline of new drugs on the market after poor drug trials and heavy competition from rival firms.

GSK make £1.6bn hostile bid
GlaxomSmithKline have made a $2.6 billion (£1.6 billion) bid for its long term partner, Human Genome Sciences. GSK, Britain’s biggest pharmaceuticals firm, made a bid worth $13 a share for HGS – 80% higher than the closing price last night.
