National ID scheme scrapped due to security issues as much as budget cuts
In the midst of budget cuts the new Tory-Lib Dem coalition has scrapped the UK’s ID card initiative; not that this is a major disappointment for the public in general. The project has cost the public purse some £250m since the project was introduced in 2002.
